Interesting Death Facts

I know what you’re thinking about now…interesting death facts? No, I’m not obsessed with death, I’m obsessed with numbers and there are a lot of interesting number facts that just happen to be related to deaths, and or murder, assassinations, and attempted murders/assassinations.

There’s a reason…

I was reading my daily news when I popped onto cnn.com and found an article about a study where rock stars are more likely to die young. It got my mind going and I started to remember all these useless facts that I have stored in my brain. They have no real world usage, but can be interesting if used as a “Hey, did you know…” kind of thing. It’s no secret that I like to think of myself as smart, even if I’m really not, so I often use these useless facts.

The Number 27

Speaking of rock star deaths, the number 27 keeps popping up. If you didn’t know, or didn’t realize it, the following rock stars all died at the age of 27.

  • Kurt Cobain
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Jim Morrison
  • Janis Joplin
  • Ron McKernan (Grateful Dead)
  • Brian Jones (Rolling Stones)

Those are just the more notable ones. Jimi, Jim, and Janis all died within months of each other.

Presidential Assassinations and Attempts

The following assassinations and attempts were taken on presidents who had been elected in even years.

  • Abraham Lincoln - Elected in 1860
  • James Garfield - Elected in 1880
  • William McKinley - Elected in 1896
  • John F. Kennedy - Elected in 1960
  • Andrew Jackson - Elected in 1828
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt - Elected in 1932
  • Harry Truman - Elected in 1948
  • Richard Nixon - Elected in 1968
  • Ronald Reagan - Elected in 1980

Hmm…

Interestingly enough, there’s a documentary in production about the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison.

Why did I write about this? So when I’m 80 and can’t remember shit, I’ll be able to say that I used to be smart and could remember things.

  1. huh that’s weird about 27. hehe hey remember when I was sad about getting old (you know, 22) and you told me all those numbers facts? You’re so cool

  2. lol, I remember that. Did it at least make you feel better about turning 22?

  3. Hey Josh, thanks for the info on rock stars dying young. Without you I would have blindly become one without knowing I was increasing my early mortality expectancy. Then again, I am 28, so since I am past 27 I guess I can consider continuing to become a rock star. ;)

  4. Esther: It’s always good to know the odds when entering into a major lifestyle change. :)

  5. With these stats, I see that I have three years before I can consider a rock and roll career. Do you have any stats on groupies? Because I think that would really be more my style.

  6. Unfortunately, I have no groupie stats stored in my gigantic head. However, I’m pretty sure that if you became a groupie, you have a higher chance of contracting certain STD’s. Just a hypothesis though. :)

  7. I did feel better, thank you. Although 23 is coming up rapidly, so be prepared.

  8. Mandy, I’m prepared. You have no idea of the wealth of knowledge locked inside my head.
