2006 was a pretty crumby year for music. Sure there was some good stuff, but for the most part, there wasn’t very much. 2007 is going to change the recent trend in music. I can feel it. There are some great upcoming albums, and also some rumored albums that are sure to be amazing. Here are the ones I’ve heard of or found so far that I’m looking forward to.

• Wincing The Night Away by The Shins - I first learned about The Shins when I heard the Garden State soundtrack. Their song, New Slang, really had an impact on me and influenced my musical taste. I can’t wait for the new album to come out. Expected Release Date: January 23rd
• Rush of Life: Pickin’ On by Gavin DeGraw - This really isn’t my type of music, and when I first heard Gavin, it was that stupidly, annoying song from One Tree Hill. I wasn’t into it at all. But when I heard Chariot, things changed, and he is definitely a staple in my iTunes library. Expected Release Date: February 6th
• Welcome the Night by The Ataris - I’ve loved The Ataris forever and will always love them. I started listening to them in high school and they helped make up some of my old usernames around the blogosphere. I wasn’t very original. Expected Release Date: February 20th
• Memory Man by Aqualung - I love, love a couple of his previous songs, one of them being Brighter than Sunshine. It holds a lot of memories and emotion for me. Hopefully, this new album won’t disappoint me. Expected Release Date: March (His website didn’t give a specific date)
• Finding Forever by Common - There is something very soulful, pure, and simple about Common and his tunes. I love the simplicity of The Light. Expected Release Date: March 2007
• It Won’t Be Soon Before Long by Maroon 5 - Yea, most of their songs sound the same almost, but I still can’t help liking them. Hopefully, they’ll come up with something great. When they first came out, they were different, I hope they keep it up. Expected Release Date: Sometime in 2007
• Radiohead - I’ve been waiting for this for awhile. There is some speculation as to how it will be released, since Radiohead is no longer under any contract. But however they do it, I can’t wait.
• Howie Day - I forgot to add this, or I didn’t think of it, but Mandy told me. I absolutely love Howie Day. Collide is an amazing song, even though I can’t listen to it anymore. And She Says is another awesome one. Hopefully, this new album will be just as great since it’s being produced by Mike Flynn who worked with The Fray and also Kevin Griffin of Better than Ezra. Expected Release: Early ‘07
