A Lack of Color

When I was younger, meaning when I didn’t have arthritis, I loved the snow.  I would spend hours outside in it, building intricate snow forts or kickass snowmen.  I would plop down on the ground and make snow angels, or I would perfect my snowball making.  But now that I’m older, and my knees hurt from the cold, I find myself disliking snow.

Yesterday and today, for the first time in I don’t know how long, I shoveled the snow.  Yesterday I shoveled our driveway and sidewalk, but today I shoveled ours, my neighbors, my grandparents, and my uncles.  That’s a lot of snow shoveling! It’s not like it was hard, the snow is light and fluffy, like it usually is when it first starts to really snow.  I don’t know what I’ll do when it becomes heavy.  Possibly beg for a snow blower.

The cold weather makes me miss San Diego even more.  It’s bad enough I already miss it, and miss Gaby, but now I miss the weather.

Driving in snow is a whole other thing.  I’m not used to it and when I do drive now I’m extra careful.  The roads around here are extra dangerous because the people that plow our streets are lazy and do half assed jobs.  We’re lucky if they even come to this part of town.  And you know, Olean isn’t that big.  It wouldn’t kill you to come down here once in awhile.

After the winter here, I may just move to Fiji.

  1. Last Winter we were lucky with the snow thing. And people are saying it will be the same. Heck, I don’t think so. Just because hurricane season was a breeze, doesn’t mean that this Winter is going to be the same. The snow deal stinks. It’s cold, wet… and it’s not fun. The weather associated also stinks too.

  2. Yea, Buffalo already got hit with that huge storm, and also the Mid West. As I recall, that didn’t happen last year. I think this year is going to be crappy. At least though, it’ll eventually leave in a couple to few months.
